Mr. Hugh Dawson has over 26 years of senior management and consulting experience in Biotech and Pharmaceutical business development and licensing. His international deal history includes negotiating contracts in Germany, UK, Switzerland, Japan, China, Brazil, Canada, Holland, Africa and the US worth more than $2 billion in asset value. He is both strategic and operational in driving business growth through innovation.
Prior to joining Innovalyst Mr. Dawson was the Head of Global Biotech Licensing at Syngenta Biotechnology Inc., where his team was responsible for the development, use, transfer, marketing and management of intellectual property to support global Biopharmaceutical and Agricultural product pipelines. In this role he negotiated and executed over 200 IP agreements annually.
From 2001-2003 he served as Chief Business Officer at Accera, a drug development company that he co-founded. During this time he helped to successfully raise private equity capital and complete a first in human study for Ketasyn, Accera’s lead compound for treatment of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. Before that Mr. Dawson was Head of Discovery and Commercialization at Novartis in Switzerland where he started a high throughput screening initiative to identify novel natural product bio-actives from diverse global libraries for use in both food and drug applications. He began his career with the Ross Division of Abbott, where he was part of a team that pioneered development of over a dozen new nasogastric and jejunostomy related medical devices during his 12-year tenure.
Mr. Dawson received his BS in Nutritional Sciences at University of Wisconsin in 1978 and MS in Nutrition Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee in 1980. After graduate school he worked for two years in critical care nutrition support at the University of Chicago Medical Center specializing in GYN-Oncology and Neonatal Intensive Care. He earned an MBA from Duke University in the fall of 2009, concentrating on finance and executive management. Mr. Dawson is also active locally as a member of LES, CED, and as a grant reviewer for NCBIO.
